Eggleton formally announced as ICTM president

Huntington, Ind. " Dr. Patrick Eggleton, Associate Professor of Mathematics at Huntington College, was formally announced as the current president for the Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) at its annual conference in Indianapolis recently. Eggleton will serve as the council president for the next two years.

ICTM serves the mathematics teachers of Indiana by providing professional development opportunities through publications, workshops and conferences and by promoting mathematics through competitions and achievement awards. ICTM is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

While at the conference, Eggleton shared a workshop entitled, The Star Trek Tricorder's Grandparent: CBL/CBR Activities for the Algebra/Integrated Math Class. The workshop shared methods of using current innovations in graphing calculator technology along with data collecting instruments to help teachers make mathematics more applied for their students.

Eggleton joined the faculty of Huntington College in 1999. He completed his BS and MEd degrees at the University of South Florida and his PhD in mathematics education at the University of Georgia. His dissertation was titled, The Evolving Mathematical Philosophy of a Pre-service Mathematics Teacher. Eggleton taught four years at Berry College in Georgia. He also has five years of public high school teaching experience. Eggleton is an active researcher and writer and has also made numerous professional presentations. His article, "Experiencing Radians," was the cover story of the September 1999 issue of Mathematics Teacher magazine. Most recently, the October 2001 issue of that magazine published his article, Triangles a la Fettuccini: A Hands-on Approach to Triangle-Congruence Theorems. Eggleton also coordinates the semi-annual High School Mathematics Competition at Huntington College.
