Forester Lecture Series speaker to discuss diversity

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University's Forester Lecture Series will feature Dr. Ben Witherington III at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Witherington serves as Amos Professor of New Testament for Doctoral Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary and on the doctoral faculty at St. Andrews University in Scotland. His presentation, "Diversity and Inclusion in 'Acts of the Apostles,'" will focus on the issue of diversity among the first Christians as recorded in the New Testament.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Witherington went on to receive the Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from the University of Durham in England. He is an elected member of the Society for New Testament Studies.

Witherington also has taught at Vanderbilt University, Duke Divinity School and Gordon-Conwell. He has presented seminars for churches, colleges and biblical meetings not only in the United States but also in England, Estonia, Russia, Europe, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Australia. In addition, he has led tours to Italy, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Jordan and Egypt.

Witherington has written more than 30 books, including "The Jesus Quest" and "The Paul Quest," both of which were selected as top biblical studies works by Christianity Today. He also writes for many church and scholarly publications and is a frequent contributor to the Beliefnet Web site. In addition, he was named general editor of the "New Cambridge Bible Commentary Series."

Along with many interviews on radio networks across the country, Witherington has been seen on the History Channel, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, The Discovery Channel, A&E, and the PAX Network.

Each semester, Huntington University presents the Forester Lecture Series. The lectures are designed to bring interesting persons and topics to the attention of students and the regional community. The lectures are open to the public free of charge.
