Fortney, Steury receive September Peer Awards

Huntington, Ind. "The Huntington University Peer Award has been passed on to two individuals for the month of September. The August recipients, Jodi Fiedler and Karen Jones, passed their awards on to Tana Fortney and Cindy Steury, respectively. The Peer Award was created to promote acknowledgement and recognition of the outstanding efforts of faculty and staff members.

Jodi Fiedler passed the award on to Tana Fortney, secretary for student development services at Huntington University. When presenting the award to Fortney, Fiedler stated, Tana is one of many people on campus who does so many different things for students, but not many people are aware of all that she is responsible for. She spent hours on the details for Freshman Orientation and did an outstanding job of pulling everything together for that event. Tana is very creative, has a good eye for detail and what it takes to accomplish a task. She is always willing to jump right into a new task and does a wonderful job at whatever she takes on. She is dependable, hardworking and creative. I am thankful to be able to pass this award on to a very deserving colleague and a good friend.

Cindy Steury receives the September Peer Award from Karen Jones.
Karen Jones passed her award on to Cindy Steury, assistant dean for faculty development and associate professor of education. In recognizing Steury, Jones commented, Though Cindy has been a valued friend, counselor and colleague since I came to Huntington, it is not the reason I am passing this Peer Award along to her. It is because Cindy is a very meticulous and dedicated member of our community, who never seeks recognition, however much it may be deserved. Faculty evaluations are not eagerly anticipated, yet Cindy has worked diligently over the last several years to ensure that we have a fair system that will contribute to our development as professors. Nearly half of the current faculty have benefited from the new faculty orientation program that Cindy has developed and faithfully guides. She has a true desire to help faculty assimilate and thrive in the Huntington community. Cindy has a spiritual center, grounded in Christ, which directs her thoughts and actions, and allows her to enjoy life and fulfill her call to teach.

Fortney and Steury will pass the award on to two new recipients from another department during the month of October.
