HUNTINGTON, Ind. The Huntington University Peer Award recipients for October are Shelly Francka, director of the Adult Degrees Program, and Melissa Duffer, adjunct instructor in theater and resident choreographer.

The Peer Award, which began in 2003, promotes acknowledgment and recognition of the outstanding efforts of Huntington University faculty and staff members. Award winners are chosen and recognized each month by fellow peers.

Francka was recognized by Dr. Michael Cook, associate professor of counseling, because of her leadership in the adult program.

"Shelly stepped into a demanding position as director of the Adult Degrees Programs and immediately began to have an impact. Though she has faced several challenges, she has continued to work through them, and has improved the quality of service in her department," he said. "Her courage to make tough choices and her endurance has been inspirational."

Duffer was recognized by Dave Solloway, admissions counselor, because of her dedication to art education.

"Melissa inspires the surrounding community to think, create and bless others through art," he said. "Her impact can be seen on stages across the country and in the lives of Huntington graduates."
