HUNTINGTON, Ind. The Huntington University Peer Award recipients for April are Cindy Geders, administrative secretary to the president's office, and Danielle Shafer, residence director of Hardy Hall.

Geders was recognized by Barb Baker, administrative assistant to the advancement office, because of her ability to take on the work load of two people and yet remain calm and patient.

"While she deals with constant interruptions in her day, she handles everyone and every situation with grace and kindness," Baker said. "Cindy is a great encourager to all those around her. Even with all she has to do, she always takes the time to express appreciation for the work that everyone else is doing."

Shafer was recognized by Melissa Laraway, coordinator of new student services, because she is passionate about investing in the lives of her residents as well as the campus community.

"Residence life requires long and unpredictable hours and working with students in trying circumstances," Laraway said. "She shows wisdom, grace and care in her interactions, and I know that our students have a better experience here at HU because of her presence."

The Peer Award, which began in 2003, promotes acknowledgment and recognition of the outstanding efforts of Huntington University faculty and staff members. Award winners are chosen and recognized each month by fellow peers.
