HC 2004 BandFest to tribute America

Huntington, Ind. " Huntington College will host its 25th annual band clinic, An American Tribute, on March 27-28, culminating in a Sunday, March 28, gala concert at 3 p.m. The concert, held in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts on Huntington College's campus, will celebrate the spirit of America. Music performed will include Herbert L. Clarke's The Carnival of Venice, Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait, Henry Fillmore's Americans We, Jerry Bilik's An American Civil War Fantasy, John Philip Sousa's George Washington Bicentennial and arrangements of This is My Country and God Bless the U.S.A.
Returning as guest military conductors will be Bryan Miller, William Browne and Allen Stephens of the United States Air Force, and Patrick Palumbo of the United States Army. Two local public school band directors, Scott Hippensteel and Marvin McNew, Jr., will also make guest appearances.
Dr. Janice Fulbright, associate professor of music at Huntington College, and Dr. John Thompson, instructor of music at Huntington College, will serve as narrators and vocal soloists.
Admission to the concert is free, and priority seating tickets are available ahead of time by calling the Merillat Centre Box Office at (260) 359-4261.Those without tickets for the concert will be seated after 2:45 p.m. Tickets may also be reserved by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Merillat Centre for the Arts, 2303 College Ave., Huntington, IN 46750, or by visiting the MCA box office Monday "Friday, 9 a.m. "Noon and 1 "4 p.m.
The BandFest weekend is specially designed for high school musicians and their directors, but instrumentalists of all ages interested in sharpening their performance skills are invited to participate. For registration information, contact the Huntington College Music Department at (260) 359-4262. Registration is open until Friday, March 19, and the fee is $30. Clinicians will be available for all band instruments, and participants are guaranteed to have an unforgettable musical and educational experience.
