HC staff and students to spend spring break in NYC

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington College staff and students will travel to New York City this spring break, March 15-19 2004, to aid mercy ministries. The team will do such things as feed the poor, help in kitchens, hand out grocery sacks, pray with people at shelters and pass out clothing and Bibles.
Martha Smith, assistant dean of students and director of career development counseling at Huntington College, will serve as the staff leader for the trip. Jennifer Strange, a junior psychology major from Brownsburg, Ind., will serve as the student leader.
I think this is going to be an opportunity to get us out of our comfort zones and have our eyes opened to some of the devastation that takes place in our own country, Strange said. I expect it to be a life changing experience for all of us and, hopefully, for many people in New York as well.
Students serving include:
- Randi Farmer, a sophomore mathematics major from Westfield, Ind.
- Kyleigh Gast, a junior elementary education major from Claypool, Ind.
- Daniel Hale, a junior philosophy major from Losantville, Ind.
- Matt Hawkins, a junior media communications major from Dixon, Ill.
- Emily Hungerford, a junior visual arts major from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
- Kim Morris, a junior elementary education major from Noblesville, Ind.
- Dan Olson, a junior theatre performance major from Shullsburg, Wis.
- Jennifer Pettit, junior recreation management major from Goshen, Ind.
- Brian Reynolds, a senior visual arts education major from Bourbonnais, Ill.
- Jenna Rodgers, a junior educational ministries major from Franklin, Pa.
- Eryn Sawyer, a junior business management major from Shullsburg, Wis.
- Andrew Stahl, a sophomore educational ministries major from Ashley, Mich.
The team will work with an organization called Forward Edge.
