HC volunteer service reaches out to the community

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington College's Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service continues to reach out to the Huntington community. On Saturday, October 13, student, faculty and staff volunteers will scatter throughout the county for the annual Fall Work Day. The work day starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs through noon.

"It's a great opportunity for the students of Huntington College to get involved in the community and provide service to others, said senior Jami Lugbill, coordinator of the event. The students who participate also enjoy bonding through this experience."

Places scheduled for work include Huntington Head Start, Red Cross, Dan Quayle Museum, Huntington House, and various homes of the elderly. Alpha Gamma Pi, the HC service sorority, will contribute their Fall Work Day time at Victory Knoll on Oct. 20.

Founded in 1992, the Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service has become an integral part of Huntington College campus life. During the 2000-01 school year, the Joe Mertz Center documented more than 18,000 hours of volunteer service contributed by students, faculty and staff.

Huntington College's Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service is a student-directed organization that mobilizes the campus community for Christian service.
