Hirschy, Woodruff recognized with Peer Awards

Huntington, Ind.-Recipients of the Huntington University Peer Award for the month of December are Paul Hirschy and Dr. David Woodruff. Cindy Geders, administrative secretary to the president, passed the Peer Award to Paul Hirschy. Hirschy is a development officer and has been with Huntington University for one year.
In recognizing Hirschy, Geders said, "Paul is a dedicated, humble servant to Huntington University. He is always there to lend a hand wherever he is needed. Paul quietly blesses others, expecting nothing in return. He always has a kind word and a smile for others. Observing Paul give his best every day inspires me to strive to do the same."
Dr. Del Doughty, professor of English, passed the Peer Award to Dr. David Woodruff. David is associate professor of philosophy and has been with Huntington University for six years.
In recognizing Woodruff, Doughty wrote, "When David's last name is used as a verb at HU-a as in the sentence, 'Sorry, I am late for lunch because I got 'Woodruffed' after the faculty meeting"-it signifies sound, fury and a barrage of syllogisms. I have witnessed a few 'Woodruffings' in my days here, and what can I say? They are spectacles, at once scary and fascinating to behold. David is an excellent colleague because he knows how to say 'no' or to vote 'no' to popular proposals, and while anyone can do that, he does it with a style, with a certain je ne sais quoi, that is admirable. While this propensity of his angers and irritates some people, I've found that in almost all cases, David is right about things (He's very smart.) and it's his function as a gadfly that makes HU a better place to learn and to work. In fact, I credit him with single-handedly figuring out, a few years ago, a course design for Capstone that has made it into the successful class it is today...Also, he forwards me a lot of very funny emails."
