|Dr. Sherilyn Emberton|
HUNTINGTON, Ind. After 75 years, the Huntington University Foundation
has made great strides to improve the community and the campus through
service and contributions. On Sept. 12, the Foundation will celebrate
this milestone anniversary.
The Foundation will host its annual dinner at 6 p.m. with featured speaker HU President Sherilyn Emberton. The dinner will be held in the upper level of the Habecker Dining Commons with a reception at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend, but reservations are required.
The Foundation was created in 1938 by Jacob L. Brenn, Fred A. Loew and local business leaders. Today, the Foundation continues to serve the community and the university by generating financial resources, raising awareness of the university, assisting in the recruitment of students from the county, enhancing the educational experience of students, and facilitating opportunities for students to remain in the area after graduation.
Emberton began her tenure as the 13th president of Huntington University on June 1. She previously served as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. She earned a Doctor of Education degree in 1999 from Texas A&M University-Commerce and completed her undergraduate study at Stephen F. Austin State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in education degree in 1979 and then a Master of Education degree in 1981.
Also, at the dinner, the Distinguished Service Award will be given to an individual or business who embodies the very principles associated with the mission of the university.
