Huntington University Theatre Co. to present ‘Scapin’

Huntington, Ind.-The Huntington University Theatre Company will present "Scapin" at 7:30 p.m. on April 2-3 and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on April 4 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Vaudeville and Commedia dell'arte are seamlessly woven into an uproarious fable of scheming lovers, mistaken identities and clownish greedy servants. Balancing on a delicately taut tightrope of mischief and revenge, the crafty servant Scapin promises to help two pairs of wide-eyes lovers while juggling an array of elaborate disguises to keep their wealthy fathers from discovering the truth. Remaining true to Moliere's classic farcical tale from the seventeenth century, this fresh and side-splitting adaptation adds a late twentieth century spin to the language and hilarious non-stop action.

Scapin (Jon Huffman) convinces Sylvestre (Glen Pearson) to play a "thug."

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, $6 for children 13 and younger, $5 for Huntington University students, and $9 for Huntington University faculty and staff. For tickets or more information, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office at (260) 359-4261.

The production is directed by Jay Duffer, visiting professor of theatre. "Scapin" was adapted from "Moliere" by Bill Erwin and Mark O'Donnell.
