LifeSpring Counseling Center impacts community

Huntington, Ind.-After just one semester of being open, the Huntington University LifeSpring Counseling Center has had a significant impact on the community. Seven of the graduate counseling students have served more than 40 clients and held more than 300 appointments. In addition to the 40 clients who have been seen, the counseling center currently has a waiting list of more than 30. Dr. Jerry Davis, director of the HU graduate counseling program, said he is thankful for the success of the counseling center in its first semester of existence. He said, "I think the clinic will be the single most significant ministry HU will offer to this community."
The LifeSpring Center serves both the students' needs and the needs of those in the community.
Each student in the graduate counseling program is required to complete 1,000 hours of clinical experience. The first 100-hour practicum is completed in the LifeSpring Counseling Center followed by three more 300-hour internship experiences.
The M.A. in Counseling at HU leads to licensure as a mental health counselor. The program integrates theology with psychology/counseling and is taught by experts in the field who are actively seeing clients.
