Nalliah, Brauchla receive September Peer Award
FOR RELEASE: Monday, September 15, 2008
Huntington, Ind.-Recipients of the Huntington University Peer Award for the month of September are Paul Nalliah and Denise Brauchla. Paul Nalliah receives the Peer Award from Sharon Woods.
Sharon Woods, director of financial aid, passed the Peer Award to Paul Nalliah. Nalliah is administrative systems administrator and has been with the university for 11 years. In recognizing Nalliah, Woods said, "Paul does such a wonderful job of providing technical support for the CARS/Jenzabar system. He is always kind and considerate even when the request I have is labor intensive or is a difficult task. He is humble, compassionate, and has a servant's heart. Paul puts in some very long days and often goes over and above what has been requested.
"On a personal level he has shown genuine interest and concern in what is going on in my life outside of work. And if you want to see Paul light up...simply ask him about his family. He really beams when he is talking about his girls. It truly is an honor for me to be able to pass this award on to my friend Paul."
Denise Brauchla receives the Peer Award from Dr. Timothy Smith.
Dr. Timothy Smith, assistant professor of history, passed the Peer Award to Denise Brauchla. Brauchla is learning center secretary and faculty secretary for Loew Brenn and has been with HU for 31 years. In recognizing Brauchla, Smith wrote, "The Learning Support Centre - located in the Loew Brenn building - provides excellent support to both the student body and the academic faculty at Huntington University. Over the course of my first year at Huntington, I have been gratefully impressed, time after time, by the commitment, dedication and love demonstrated by Kris Chafin, Denise Brauchla and the student tutors/workers that keep this valuable resource alive. Their daily sacrifice is an example to us all.
"It is therefore a privilege to be able to nominate Denise Brauchla for the first Peer Award of the academic year 2008-2009. Denise provides excellent secretarial support to both the Learning Centre and the faculty stationed in the Loew Brenn building. But Denise is much more than just a secretary. She is gracious co-worker who has unselfishly enabled me to maximize my efforts for my students. For example she has squeezed additional students into the busy Learning Centre examinations schedule when I have decided to offer extra support to those who do not necessarily meet the centre's criteria. But her greatest accolade comes from the testimony of the students. They talk about her with a genuine warmth and affection."
