Philharmonic to present Holiday Pops Concert

Huntington, IN -- It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! Especially when the Fort Wayne Philharmonic comes to town. The Fort Wayne Philharmonic, under the direction of Conductor David Borsvold, will perform a Holiday Pops concert at Huntington College's Merillat Centre for the Arts on Sunday, December 10, 2000 at 2:30 p.m. The concert, presented by Huntington College, features all your favorite holiday pieces, including Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland, The Little Drummer Boy, and the ever-popular Christmas Pops Sing-a-long. Tickets for the afternoon are $14, $12, and $10 and available by calling (260) 359-4261.
Major funding for this year's Holiday Pops concert at Huntington College is provided by Myers Funeral Home. Additional funding is provided by the law firm of Bowers, Brewer, Garret, & Wiley, and by Mr. Robert E. Wilson.
David Borsvold, born in New Haven, Connecticut, holds Master's degrees in both Orchestral Conducting and Performance form the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Bachelors in performance from the University of Cincinnati. Borsvold has served on the faculties of Kent State University, Baldwin-Wallace College, Cleveland State University, Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. In the summer of 1993, he made his guest conducting debut with members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic at the: We Ain't Playin benefit concert in the Foellinger Theatre. Borsvold, also a tuba player, was formerly active in the Cleveland Chamber Brass, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony and the Blossom Festival concert Band. He has played with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic, the Canton Symphony Orchestra, the Wheeling Symphony and the Akron Symphony. In addition to his musical career, Borsvold once served as a free-lance writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and as a weekend announcer at classical music station WCLV.
The Fort Wayne Philharmonic is heralded as one of the finest regional orchestras in the country. Boasting a full-time core of 44 musicians, the Philharmonic performs 80 concerts and 450 ensemble performances a year in schools, nursing homes, and nutrition sites.
