Seniors combine talents for recital

HUNTINGTON, Ind. The Huntington University Music Department will present a combined senior recital by soprano Kate Smith and tenor Jacob Keefer at 7:30 p.m. April 13. The free recital will be held in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

Kate Smith is a senior theater performance major and music minor from Dayton, Ohio. She has been under the vocal instruction of HU Adjunct Music Professor Joni Killian since February 2008. She has had the pleasure of participating in the following productions and events during her time with the Huntington Music department: "The Music Man" (Chorus), Opera Workshop, All Area's for applied voice, Musical Theatre Class Showcase, Women's Choral touring performances, Concert Choir touring performances, Jazz soloist for the Huntington University Jazz ensemble, "Beauty and the Beast" (Babette), "Guys and Dolls" (Hot Box Girl) and "Shakespeare and Songs."

Jacob Keefer, of Willshire, Ohio, is a senior music major. He has been studying vocal technique with Joni Killian since entering HU in 2008. He has performed in two operettas at Huntington which included "The Mikado," as a chorus member, and the title role in "Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing." Keefer was also a featured performer in "'Tis the Season" in 2010 and 2011. He participated in the chorus in the musical "Beauty and the Beast" and has been a member of concert choir since coming to Huntington.

Keefer was selected to perform in the annual HU Longaker Honors Recital in the spring of 2011 with a collection of three Schubert songs, and again this spring with "Five Shakespeare Songs" by Quilter. Currently, he is participating in the HU Music Department Operettas "Cinderella" as the Prince and "Toy Shop" as Paul.
