The Freimann Concert scheduled for February 19

Huntington, Ind. "Principal musicians of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra, including the popular Freimann String Quartet, will present a mid-winter concert at Huntington College on Tuesday, February 19, at 8 p.m. The concert will be held in the Merillat Centre of the Arts' Longaker Recital Hall. Included in the evening's performance are three percussion pieces " A Quiver Full of Arrows by Brian Prechtl; Kendhang Kalih, an Indonesian piece by Gareth Farr; and 5 Cirandas Brasilerias, a Portugese piece by Rosuaro. The Freimann String Quartet will perform String Quartet in B-flat major, Op. 130, by Beethoven.
Brian Prechtl gained his inspiration for A Quiver Full of Arrows from Psalm 127: 3-5. He has been a member of the percussion section of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic since 1989. Previous to that appointment he has held principal percussion positions in both the Columbus and the Toledo Symphony Orchestras in Ohio. Prechtl graduated with high distinction from the University of Michigan in 1984 with a Bachelor of Music degree and went on to earn his Master of Music degree at Temple University in Philadelphia in 1986. There he studied with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and performed as a substitute player with that orchestra. Prechtl is active as a composer, having world premiere performances at the Grand Teton Music Festival and in Fort Wayne. His music is characterized by rhythmic vitality and a sense of passion for life, and his inspiration is drawn from scriptural sources. Prechtl also serves as band director at Canterbury School, and as instructor at the Sonrise Community School of the Arts.
Hiromi Ito, who teaches applied violin at Huntington College, has served at the Concertmaster of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic since 1993. Although he started playing the violin at the age of three, Ito graduated from college as a physics major before winning a grant from the Japanese government, which enabled him to study music in Europe. Upon returning to Japan, he was appointed concertmaster of the Kyushu Symphony. In his hometown of Fukuoka, Ito came to the United States for further study at Indiana University in Bloomington. He has studied under Shmuel Ashkenasi, Yuval Yaron and Christian Ferras. Since coming to the United States, Ito has been a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Baltimore Symphony. He frequently performs with the Chicago Symphony and has made many solo appearances in Japan, Germany and the United States.
