Thompson, Prickett to perform recital

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington University professors Dr. John Thompson and Amy Prickett will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2005, at the Zurcher Auditorium in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Dr. John Thompson
Dr. John Thompson, assistant professor of applied voice & opera workshop, holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice performance from the University of Memphis. He also earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree (voice emphasis) and a Master of Music degree in voice performance from New Mexico State University.
While at the University of Memphis, Dr. Thompson appeared as John Sorel in The Consul, Mat o' the Mint in The Beggar's Opera, Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, Morales in Carmen, Eduardo in Roman Fever, and Antonio in The Marriage of Figaro. He also appeared as Big Al in Mystery on the Docks with Opera Memphis.
Dr. Thompson was a member of the Dona Ana Lyric Opera in Las Cruces, N.M., and performed the roles of Ford in Falstaff, the title role in Tartuffe, Germont in La Traviata, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Marcello in La Boheme, Baritone in Sweeney Todd, Escamillo in Carmen, Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus, and Don Basilio in The Barber of Seville. He also was a member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Players, performing the roles of Sergeant of Police in The Pirates of Penzance, Pooh-Bah in The Mikado, Colonel Calverley in Patience, and Sir Despard Murgatroyd in Ruddigore.
In his role as an assistant professor, Dr. Thompson teaches applied voice, diction, and class voice. Since joining the faculty at Huntington University, he has appeared as a soloist in the Faculty Showcase Recital, the Lord Nelson Mass, Messiah, and the Mozart's Requiem. He also has performed with other music faculty members in concerts throughout the Huntington area. Most recently, Dr. Thompson appeared as Peter in Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel with the Huntington Area Lyric Opera at Huntington University. Other performances include Bob in the University's production of Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief, El Danca-ro in the Dona Ana Lyric Opera production of Carmen, Peter in the Manchester Opera production of Hansel and Gretel, Sir Joseph Porter in Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore with the Warsaw Community Chorus, and The Pirate King in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance with the Huntington University Theatre.
In addition to his performances in the United States, Dr. Thompson has appeared as a soloist in Germany and Romania, and as a choral clinician and accompanist for choral events in Romania, where he and his wife, Anca, visit annually. The couple currently resides in Fort Wayne, Ind., where Dr. Thompson serves as minister of music at First Missionary Church.
Amy Prickett
Amy Prickett, a Huntington University adjunct professor, and lyric soprano, quickly is gaining a national reputation. Prickett has appeared as a guest artist with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Lansing Symphony, Adrian Symphony, St. Clair Symphony, Calvin College Oratorio Society, North East Texas Symphony, and Oregon Bach Festival. This winter, she will make her debut with the Grand Rapids Symphony in Grand Rapids, Mich.
She has appeared as the soprano soloist in performances of Brahms' Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Poulenc's Gloria, Orff's Carmina Burana, Faure's Requiem, Haydn's Mass in Time of War, and Mozart's Coronation Mass. In Fort Wayne, Ind., Prickett has been a frequent soloist with the Fort Wayne Bach Collegium, singing Bach masterworks including the St. John Passion, B Minor Mass, and Magnificat. Prickett also has appeared regularly with the Wind Ensemble and Early Music Ensemble at Indiana-Purdue University in Fort Wayne.
Equally at home in operatic roles, Prickett has sung the roles of Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, Lola in Douglas Moore's Gallantry, Diana in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, and Elisetta in Cimarosa's Secret Marriage. While residing in Texas, Prickett performed with the Fort Worth Opera Chorus.
Combining a career of performance with teaching, Prickett is a sought-after voice teacher. A graduate of Michigan State University and Texas Christian University, Prickett currently serves as an associate faculty member at Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne and Huntington University. In those positions, she teaches courses in vocal pedagogy, diction, song literature, and applied voice.
