Turner, Priest recognized with January Peer Awards

Huntington, Ind.-Recipients of the Huntington University Peer Award for the month of January are Gary Turner and Dr. Wayne Priest.

Paul Hirschy, development officer, passed the Peer Award to Gary Turner. Turner serves as athletic director, facilities director of the Merillat Complex for Physical Education and Recreation and coach of the men's and women's tennis teams. He has been with Huntington University for five years.

In recognizing Turner, Hirschy said, "As part of my efforts to build relationships with parents and supporters of Huntington, I have been attending as many of the basketball games as my schedule will permit. I normally see Gary going about his duties before, during and after each game. Much of his work is behind the scene and involves helping others do their work. I appreciate Gary's positive attitude as he relates to those working and the way he greets the fans. Gary helps extend a friendly welcome to athletic events."

Dr. David Woodruff, associate professor of philosophy, passed the Peer Award to Dr. Wayne Priest. Priest is associate professor of psychology and has been with Huntington University for nine years.

In recognizing Priest, Woodruff wrote, "Wayne Priest stands out as an excellent peer because of his commitment to others and because he translates that commitment into meeting and exceeding his obligations as a faculty member. Wayne takes seriously the interpersonal relationships that make Huntington function well. He sees his position as a teacher as an opportunity to help students develop as educated members of a larger community. He further shows his commitment through his willingness to teach an overload to ensure that students would get the best instruction possible. He shares a vision for the institution to excel and works with others to bring that about. Wayne also reaches out to the community by serving on several boards and devoting time to other community projects. As if that is not enough, he is even coaching kindergarten girls' basketball."
