University to host worship planning seminar

Huntington, Ind. "The Ministry and Missions Department of Huntington University, through its newly formed Worship Leadership Program, will offer a free seminar in worship planning.

Bob Myers, the university's Instructor in Worship Leadership, will host three key members of the worship planning team from Emmanuel Community Church in Fort Wayne, Ind.: Dennis Miller, senior pastor; Sam Ward, director of creative worship and drama; and Dan Friend, music director. The panel will discuss interpersonal and organizational dynamics that encourage teamwork in crafting worship services that are unified, Christ-centered, and engaging.

The relationship between church musicians and preaching pastors has historically been strained. The staff at Emmanuel has nurtured an environment of teamwork that unifies their efforts while at the same time affirms the gifts of the individual leaders. The congregation enjoys the benefits of a healthy church, Myers said.

The interactive seminar will explore the philosophy and values that cultivate such an environment as well as the mechanisms that keep it functioning effectively. The seminar is free of charge and open to all. It will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2005, in room 150 of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.
