Weather specialist Sandy Thompson to address breakfast meeting

HUNTINGTON, IN-- The Huntington College Foundation will host its next monthly breakfast on Wednesday, October 10. Sandy Thomson, NewsChannel 15's Chief Weather Specialist, will be the guest speaker. Sandy, a native Hoosier, grew up in Huntington County and attended Huntington College.

Breakfast will be served at 7:45 a.m. in the Habecker Dining Commons. The program will conclude by 9:00 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $6 per person. First-time guests are not charged, thanks to generous underwriting by Bailey-Love Mortuary.

Following her two years at Huntington College, Sandy Thomson obtained her B.S. in mass communications from Indiana University. She began her weather career at NewsChannel 15 in April of 1987. While at WANE, she hosted City Style 15 for nearly eight years and has appeared in numerous commercials and training films.

Thomson's weather responsibilities are not just local. She has served as a councilor for the National Weather Association, and for the second year has been elected as a National Board Member for NWA. In addition, she is very active on the NWA Broadcast Meteorology Committee and is currently a panel member, judging and evaluating other weathercasters across the nation who are applicants for the NWA seal certification. She also serves as chairperson of the seal re-certification program for the third year.

In order to recognize her outstanding achievements, in 1999 the National Weather Association named Sandy Broadcaster of the year.
