Who’s afraid of opera?

Huntington, Ind. " The First Annual Huntington College Opera and Musical Theatre Scenes Program, Who's Afraid of Opera? will be presented on Friday evening, February 2, at 8:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The program will include scenes from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro and Magic Flute, Bizet's Carmen, German Romantic composer Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, Black American composer William Grant Still's Troubled Island, and Gian Carlo Menotti's charming one-act opera The Telephone, together with a variety of scenes from musical theatre. The lighthearted evening event will be staged, costumed, and performed by students in Dr. Janice Fulbright's January Term class, "Who's Afraid of Opera?"
General admission at the door is $10, or $5 for students, faculty and senior citizens. Advance tickets for general admission can be purchased for $5 from the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office, (260) 359-4261.
Come prepared to wipe tears and to laugh a lot as the beautiful music of these great shows transports you to another time and place, says Dr. Fulbright, chair of the Huntington College Department of Music.
