Women’s Auxiliary Breakfast to be held September 21

Huntington, Ind. " The Huntington College Women's Auxiliary will hold its Fall Breakfast on Saturday, September 21, at 9 a.m., in the Habecker Dining Commons. For the third time John Trook, a Huntington antique dealer and owner of the New England Antiques store, will be the featured speaker. Each person in attendance can bring a small antique, and Mr. Trook will share an appraisal.

Mr. Trook, recently the focus of a published article in the The Maine Antiques Digest, has been buying and selling antiques for approximately 53 years. He has taught school, decorated restaurants (The Wharf and Moonraker in Fort Wayne) and now does appraisal work. He continually travels throughout Indiana, the South, the East, and occasionally to Europe looking for antiques.

Specializing in country primitives, Trook also enjoys Victorian items. He does not evaluate a lot of jewelry and has chosen not to invest time and energy in learning about Oriental or African antiques. At one point, though, he had accumulated the largest collection of nautical antiques in Indiana. It took six auctions to sell all his nautical collection.

The Huntington College Auxiliary has been a part of the life of the college since 1903 and is involved in several projects to benefit students. Jordan Hopper, a senior art major, is currently working on an art piece to be framed for Baker Hall.

Current Auxiliary officers are Barbara Fetters, president; Chris Dowden, vice president; Ruth Weber, secretary; Jean Root, treasurer; and Elaine Miller, corresponding secretary. A short business meeting will be held at the breakfast.

Community women are invited to bring a small antique for evaluation to the breakfast and let John Trook tell you what you have and how much it might be worth. Come and enjoy John, his stories, his antique knowledge, and music by the HC music department. A breakfast buffet will be served for $5.50.
