Wycliffe missionary to speak during Service Emphasis Week

Huntington, Ind. " Huntington College and the Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service will host Marilyn Laszlo, a former Wycliffe Bible translator, as a speaker for this year's Service Emphasis Week. Laszlo will speak at HC on February 3 and 5, at 10 a.m., in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts and on February 4, at 11 a.m., in Zurcher Auditorium. We are very excited to bring Marilyn Laszlo to campus, said Joanne Miller, advisor to the Joe Mertz Center. She has a great background and hopefully will be able to expand the student worldview beyond the community of Huntington which is part of the importance of Service Emphasis Week.
Laszlo is currently a national speaker for Wycliffe U.S.A. and Laszlo Mission League. Wycliffe is an organization whose mission is to assist the church in making disciples of all nations through Bible translation. Speaking at various conferences, churches, women's retreats and college campuses, Laszlo seeks to challenge and encourage God's people, sharing her personal testimony of how the translated Word of God is impacting people around the world.
As a Wycliffe missionary, Laszlo served as a Bible translator to the Sepik Iwam people of Hauna Village, Papua New Guinea, from 1967-1991. Having lived with the Sepik Iwam people for over 24 years, Laszlo took an unwritten language, created an alphabet, created reading books, taught the people to read and write, did medical work, and complete the New Testament and related portions of the Old Testament. Laszlo's experiences in Papua New Guinea are chronicled in her book entitled Mission Possible.
The Joe Mertz Center is a campus service organization that seeks to involve students in meeting the needs of the community, instill a tendency towards service, and inspire a lifelong commitment to unselfish acts.
