5 Ways to Support HU’s 1897 Day of Giving

Marcy Hawkins

Huntington University’s 1897 Day of Giving will begin on March 16, 2023, at 5:00 a.m. EDT and continue through noon the following day. Does that sound strange? It’s actually a very intentional choice. This year, we’re honoring 1897, the year of our founding, by celebrating Day of Giving for 1 day, 8 hours, 9 minutes, and 7 seconds.

We invite you to join us as we use this time to prepare for future generations of Foresters. Here are five simple ways to get involved in HU’s 1897 Day of Giving:

  1. Make a gift. Every financial gift on Day of Giving goes directly toward student scholarships through the Forester Fund. Making a gift is one of the best ways to ensure the HU experience for future generations of Foresters.

  1. Share your story and honor a person (or more than one person) who played a major role in that story. We want to hear your story. Who is that person who helped make you who you are today? This person could be connected to Huntington University or be someone you’ve met elsewhere — all we ask is that this person is someone who has made a significant impact in your life. There will be a form on the Day of Giving webpage specifically for letting us know whom you want to honor.

  1. Attend events and share your talents. This way of getting involved goes beyond Day of Giving. By attending HU events throughout the year (performances, athletic contests, alumni gatherings, etc.), you are sending an impactful message of support for the students who see you getting involved. Your presence is important! Additionally, your service — helping out with an event, speaking in a class, and more — is a reminder that Christ, scholarship, and service are the heart of our mission. Whether you attend an event, share your talents from the stage, or work behind the scenes, you are welcome.

  1. Pray. We can’t stress this one enough. Wherever you are in the world on March 16, please pray for the 1897 Day of Giving and all the lives that the day will impact through the Forester Fund.

  1. Share on social media. Tell your HU story on social media and share HU posts throughout the day. Help us spread the word far and near!

In each of these five ways to get involved, you have the opportunity to make an impact on new generations of Foresters. As we think about others who have made a positive impact in our lives, let us collectively continue the rich tradition of impacting the lives of those around us by providing scholarships that guarantee the HU experience for new generations. Let us grow a Forest of Foresters who are committed to Christ and community, and let us make it possible for all who want to be a part of this Forester community to do so.

See you bright and early on March 16! Learn more at huntington.edu/DayOfGiving.
