We're here for you!

Each year, the program awards a select number of full-tuition and partial-tuition scholarships to students from underrepresented populations, as well as to students who demonstrate a clear commitment to intercultural understanding, reconciliation, and community belonging. These commitments reflect a core value of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, the sponsoring denomination of Huntington University since its founding in 1897. 

The application deadline for this scholarship is February 1, 2026 and the interview date is February 7, 2026.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Christ-Centered Diversity through leadership, service, or bridge-building across diverse communities.
  • Show strong academic achievement in pre-college coursework evidenced by having at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • Provide evidence of Christian faith.
  • Express a desire to engage meaningfully in multicultural contexts while at Huntington University.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
Program Expectations

Scholars selected for the Horizon Multicultural Scholarship Program will participate in leadership development and community engagement throughout their time at Huntington. This includes:

  1. Spiritual Growth – cultivating a biblical foundation of Christ-Centered Diversity.
  2. Academic Excellence – receiving mentoring and support through faculty and campus resources.
  3. Community Building – fostering meaningful relationships across diverse cultural and ethnic communities.
  4. Leadership Development – engaging in campus life, residence halls, and student leadership initiatives.
  5. Holistic Support – receiving guidance through student wellness, vocational services, and mentorship opportunities.
Service Expectation

Horizon Leadership students are expected to be active in campus leadership groups and to participate in the monthly leadership development program developed by the Director of Multicultural Affairs in order to help them develop their leadership skills. Students also will be expected to serve Huntington University and/or another NE Indiana organization a minimum of 25 hours per semester. Horizon Leadership students must be available to represent Huntington University for events hosted by Admissions, Advancement, and the President’s Office.

Scholarship Awarding

Two full scholarships are awarded in each incoming class. In addition to those, multiple scholarships will be awarded for $5,000 awards that will be added to other institutional awards, up to the full cost of tuition for the academic year. Full scholarship awards cover (but do not exceed) tuition, room, board, and standard fees for the academic year when combined with all other forms of institutional, federal, and state grants and scholarships, but will not cover course fees, miscellaneous costs, or books.

Selection Process

Applicants must:

  • Be accepted for admission to HU by February 1.
  • Apply to the Horizon Leadership Program online by February 1, 2026.
  • Submit their FAFSA by April 15. • Submit two references online (one mentor, one peer).
  • Attend the interview day on February 7, 2026 with the committee.
Renewal

In order to renew a Horizon Leadership Scholarship, students must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, submit a community service log by the last day of each semester, and must be in good standing with the Center for Spiritual Formation and Student Life Office. Students renewing full scholarships must submit their FAFSA by April 15 each year.
