Alum to discuss ‘The Mystery of Metastasis’ in special lecture

Kevin Byrd, Huntington University, a Christian collegeHUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University alum and doctorate candidate Kevin Byrd will give a special talk on "The Mystery of Metastasis: Cancer in the Head & Neck Region As a Systemic Model for Discovery" at 4 p.m. Oct. 26 in Hiner Hall of the Science Hall on campus. The seminar is part of the Gerald D. Smith Lecture Series in the Natural and Mathematical Sciences. It is free and open to the public.

Byrd, a 2009 biology graduate who is a Doctor of Dental Surgery candidate at the University of Michigan, is currently working in the area of diagnostic biomarkers in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma in the Periodontics and Oral Medicine Department of the School of Dentistry at the University of Michigan. He has also been accepted into the Ph.D. program in oral biology with a concurrent acceptance into the specialty program of periodontics at the University of North Carolina. Byrd says that he plans to have an academic career which combines research, teaching and practice.
