Fetters writes and teaches upcoming EXCEL course

Huntington, Ind. "Have you ever wanted to capture the essence of God's message through the Bible to the contemporary world? Huntington College will offer a new EXCEL workshop, Survey of the Bible, starting Monday, March 4, that will help students do just that. Paul Fetters, Professor of Practical Theology at Huntington College, has written the material and will teach the course developed specifically for adults. The class will concentrate on the major persons, events, locations and themes of the Bible. Students will be guided in tracing the Judeo-Christian tradition from the call of Abraham 2090 BC to Rome 100 AD. Using Biblical dictionaries, concordances, atlases, library resources and on-line references, students will study, respond to, and reflect on pertinent sections of the Bible as they relate to God's redemptive message as written in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New Testament.
The longer I teach, the more satisfaction I receive in assisting adults who have been reading their Bible for years, said Fetters, who will be retiring at the close of the academic year. It is important to establish the timeline of characters by which students can place the historic events of Israel and trace the redemptive message of God through both the Old and New Testaments.
Fetters earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Huntington College in 1955 and a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Huntington College Theological Seminary in 1959. In 1969, he received a Master of Divinity from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pa., and in 1975 earned a Master of Science in education from Saint Francis College in Fort Wayne, Ind. Fetters received a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., in 1980, and from 1994-2001 has done post graduate work at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C.
Fetters has three sons who are solid Christian men and ordained ministers. He has worked for 25 years training men for the ministry and has 25 years experience in college leadership positions, including international teaching experience. He and his wife Barbara co-wrote Alive Unto God, a catechism for the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. Other highlighted publications Fetters has written and edited include Trials and Triumphs, a history of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, Theological Perspectives, Conflictos y Triunfos - Version Condensada, and Welcome is the Will of God.
After retirement, Fetters has been asked to teach at the Wesleyan Theological Seminary in Hong Kong and at the Holy Way Bible Institute in South Korea. He has also been asked to teach intensive courses in many theological seminaries across the U.S. and start a Bible institute in Jamaica.
This class is structured for those students who want to earn college credit and also for those students who want to come and engage in a rigorous learning experience just for personal development reasons, said Kathleen O'Donnell, Director of the EXCEL Program for Adult Professionals. Paul Fetters is a highly respected and widely known figure on campus and students will find it an honor to study under him as his retirement comes at the close of this academic year.
