Graduate School extension campus opens in Indianapolis

Huntington, Ind. " The Huntington College Graduate School of Christian Ministries has opened an extension campus in the Indianapolis area. Beginning in September 2002, courses will be offered toward the completion of the Master of Arts degrees in Educational Ministries and in Youth Ministries with concentration and elective classes offered in leadership and family ministry.

The graduate school program is designed for the pastor, Christian education director, youth minister, or other ministry staff who would like to earn the Master's degree or take specific classes of interest. The classes in Indianapolis will also provide an opportunity for laypersons, or those who are transitioning into ministry from a secular career, to develop their ministry skills.

The opportunity for graduate school often requires a person to relocate or enroll in a distance-learning program, said Dr. Gary House, assistant professor of educational ministries and director of mentoring at the Graduate School. Classes at the Graduate School of Christian Ministries in Indianapolis are designed for those who want to further their education and ministry training without leaving their present ministry or work positions.

Each course is offered in a non-traditional format, typically meeting one Friday and Saturday each month for three months. The block format is designed to be worker-friendly and to allow for an intensive time of interaction as students and professors discuss ministry ideas and issues.

Classes offered through the extension campus for the fall semester include, EM 525 Motivation, Learning, and Teaching on Sept. 26-28 and Oct. 17-19, and FM 565 Ministry to the Fractured Family on Sept. 20-21, October 25-26, and Nov. 8-9. All classes meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Faith Missionary Church at 91st St. and College Ave. The cost for senior adults, 55 years and older, is only $100 per class.
