Graduating seniors to exhibit works in Wilson Gallery

Huntington, Ind.-From Nov. 23 to Dec. 9, the Huntington University Department of Visual Arts will present an art exhibition by Elaine Hollaar, Nora Majors and Abigail Smith in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery, located in the Merillat Center for the Arts.

An artist reception will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 in the lobby of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.

The art exhibition is a senior project. After a brainstorming session, Hollaar, Majors and Smith came up with a title "Trio Forte" for their show.

Hollaar is a senior graphic design and art education major from Toronto, Canada. She will show two projects. The first consists of three personalized wedding stationary sets. The second is a series of six posters designed to raise ecological awareness, something she feels passionate about. In the past Hollaar has participated in HU's annual juried student art shows.

Majors is a senior art education major from Roachdale, Ind. Her presentation consists of four paintings and 30 pieces of a ceramic series. For her projects she used oil paint on canvas, and for a particular piece she used stoneware and porcelain clay. Majors has participated in art exhibitions the past four years.

Smith is a senior fine arts major from Poneto, Ind. Her project consists of family portraits done with charcoal. She has worked in the student shows every spring for the last three years. Smith hopes that this exhibit will provide a better understanding concerning the artistic efforts put into such projects.

The art exhibition is open to the public at no charge.

The Robert E. Wilson Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre for the Arts performances, and by appointment. For further information, contact Gallery Director Susan Yee at (260) 359-4331 or syee@huntington.edu.
