HU Professional Programs honors students, faculty for achievements

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University's Professional Programs honored 13 students and two faculty members on May 18 for their academic achievements during the year.

Four individuals were recognized for outstanding academic achievement as either valedictorian for earning the highest grade point average or salutatorian for earning the second-highest grade point average in their respective degree programs.

Those students honored are:

Valedictorian (Bachelor's Degree): Abigail Shirley, a graduate from Duluth, Minn., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and not-for-profit leadership.Abigail_Shirley

Nine students were also inducted into the Pinnacle and Spire honor society. The Pinnacle (four-year) and Spire (two-year) are honor societies that recognize non-traditional students of at least 23 years old who have a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average and who have demonstrated leadership through community and/or church involvement.HonorSociety

The following students were inducted:

Gregory Long, a 2013 graduate from Fort Wayne, Ind., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and human resource.

Tenel Hawn, a 2013 graduate from Columbia City, Ind., who will graduate in 2014 with a degree in accounting.

Tonya Horvath, a 2013 graduate from Columbia City, Ind., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

Robin Ness, a 2013 graduate from Huntington, Ind., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

Jill Beyers, a 2013 graduate from Claypool, Ind., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

Jeffrey Walker, a 2013 graduate from Columbia City, Ind., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.

Lisa Hollister, a 2013 graduate from Fort Wayne, Ind., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Denise Arbuckle, a 2013 graduate from Van Buren, Ind., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Abigail Shirley, a 2013 graduate from Duluth, Minn., who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in not-for-profit leadership and business administration.

Faculty members Scott Druhot and Vanessa Schoon were named "Faculty of the Year." They received the most votes from the Professional Programs 2013 graduates based on criteria that they best represented the program's core values of integrity, student support and student learning.
