Huntington inducts 13 members into Lambda Pi Eta

Huntington, Ind.-Huntington University inducted 13 new members into its Lambda Pi Eta chapter at a ceremony held Sept. 29 in Habecker Dining Commons. Lambda Pi Eta is the official communication studies honor society of the National Communication Association. "The members of Lambda Pi Eta exhibit strong academic abilities and a willingness to serve their community," said Heather Barkley, chapter advisor and an adjunct instructor in the Department of Communication.
Lambda Pi Eta members complete one significant service project in the community each semester. For the fall semester of 2009, they will assist with the Huntington County United Way's fundraising campaign at the university.

As a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, Lambda Pi Eta has more than 400 active chapters at four-year colleges and universities worldwide.
Lambda Pi Eta was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas. The organization became a part of the National Communication Association in 1988, and the official honor society of the NCA in July 1995.
Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle described in his book, "Rhetoric," as the three ingredients of persuasion: Logos (Lambda) meaning logic, Pathos (Pi) relating to emotion, and Ethos (Eta) defined as character credibility and ethics.
