Huntington Music Faculty to present Showcase Recital

HUNTINGTON, IN-Huntington College's Music Faculty Showcase Recital will be presented during Homecoming 1999 on Sunday, October 3 at 3:00 p.m. in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The hour-long recital is free and open to the public. The concert will feature the performing faculty of the Huntington College Music Department in works by Handel, Torelli, Chopin, Tarrega, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff. The following faculty members will participate:
Michael Brennan (Classical Guitar) holds a Bachelor and Master of Music in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Fullerton. He has been teaching for nine years both privately and in the classroom, including Mt. San Antonio College in Pomona, CA and at the Cincinnati Bible College.
Jean Flint (Piano), is a graduate of Spring Arbor College, with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. Flint teaches Applied Piano, Class Piano, and Accompanying at Huntington College, and teaches private piano and voice as well. Flint is a church accompanist, children's choir director, vocalist, and a member of the singing group, "First Love."
Dr. Janice Fulbright (Contralto), associate professor of music, chairs the Music Department at Huntington College. She earned her Doctorate in Conducting and Musicology from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She also earned the Doctoral Artist Diploma in Opera from the same institution. Dr. Fulbright has taught at Georgia State University, Wayne State University, the University of Redlands, and was a Visiting Professor and Director of Opera Theatre at Northern Arizona University. Dr. Fulbright has sung extensively throughout Europe, including the Opera Houses of Dortmund, Cologne, Vienna, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Aachen, Detmold, Bielefeldt, Linz, Mainz, Bern, Zurich, Lucca, Venice, Marseilles, Lyon, London, Paris, and at the Wagner Festspielhaus in Bayreauth. She is best known for her operatic character roles, 50 in her repertory, and for her work in musical theatre and oratorio, with over 100 roles to her credit.
Dr. Marlene Schleiffer (Oboe), professor of music, earned her Ph.D. in musicology from Indiana University. A Chicago native, she studied with Ray Still, Principal Oboist of the Chicago Symphony. Her professional interests include music theory, music history, and composition. At Huntington College, she maintains an active teaching schedule, is the Director of Instrumental Ensembles, and continues to compose and perform as an oboist.
Dr. Patricia Spedden (Piano), professor of music, directs the Piano Division and teaches piano, music theory, and related courses. A native of New York City, she has won numerous competitions, including earning the Rudolph Ganz Award for piano performance. She frequently performs professionally and is pianist for RSVP, a cello-piano duo that performs regionally, collaborates with other instrumentalists from the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and participates in the Presenter Touring Program underwritten by the Indiana Arts Commission.
Robert Taylor (Trumpet), has been principal trumpet with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the Fort Wayne Brass Quintet, and is a founding member of the Paramount Brass Quintet. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of North Texas and holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Houghton College and a Master of Music Education from Indiana University.
Dr. David Wallis (Baritone), assistant professor of music, has received both the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in conducting from Michigan State University. He has taught for more than 20 years, including posts at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Michigan State University, Lansing (MI) Community College and Tantasqua Regional Senior High School in Sturbridge, MA.
