Huntington University to hold a Service Emphasis Week

Huntington, Ind. - Huntington University will be holding a Service Emphasis Week during the week of Feb. 7-11.

Abigail Davis, the southwest regional director for Crescent Project, will be the keynote speaker for the week. Crescent Project is a non-profit organization that exists to equip the North American Christian community to sensitively share the joy of knowing Christ with their Muslim neighbors. Crescent Project's goal is to overcome misunderstandings about Islam through education so that Christians take the initiative to build friendships with their Muslim neighbors.

Davis will be speaking to students about service during the Tuesday and Thursday chapels at 10 a.m., and on Wednesday evening, she will be speaking to future student leaders.

At 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sherry Searles, founder of Accessories for Hope, will speak to students during the chapel service about current-day human slavery and how she became involved in the fight as a North Manchester mother. Accessories for Hope is a social enterprise dedicated to raising awareness and educating the public about the injustice of modern-day slavery. This is done mainly through Freedom Parties. Accessories, most of which are made by rescued slaves, are available for purchase. All proceeds go directly to those who have been rescued from human trafficking and/or to organizations dedicated to helping the oppressed around the world.

On Thursday, the Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer Service on campus is planning a volunteering opportunity for students.

Service Emphasis Week is a reminder to the campus to develop the character of a volunteer as well as a servant heart they continue through their lives and in their walk with God.
