Innovative degrees prepare HU students for changing world

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University will launch three new program options this fall, offering more specialization for students. Sport management, biochemistry and broadcast-fusion media will join the more than 70 existing program options for HU students.

"Labor analysts and trend spotters like to say that the hot careers of 2017 and beyond are only now coming into view," said Dr. Del Doughty, interim senior vice president for academic affairs. "These forward-looking programs speak to that observation, and at the same time, they offer an integrated liberal arts core that will prepare students for anything."

The sport management program is designed for students who have a strong desire to pursue a career in sports with a focus in administration, management and entrepreneurship. Students can pursue careers as an athletic director, in sport tourism, as a director of operations and in many more areas.

The biochemistry track is a new program within the university's existing chemistry program. The track builds on the chemistry degree to provide a convenient way for students to focus on a medical or medically-related degree after graduation or pursue careers in the growing biotechnology industry, the pharmaceutical industry and more.

The broadcast-fusion media program will prepare students for careers in a wide range of media-based jobs, including news and sports reporting, anchoring, TV production, radio production and programming, church media, podcasting, social media and corporate media-production. The degree program has evolved from the standard broadcasting major to prepare students for success in this ever-changing field.
