Michelson publishes two new books on Romania
HUNTINGTON, IN -- Professor Paul E. Michelson, distinguished professor of history at Huntington College, has two new works forthcoming.
Michelson co-authored "A History of Romania," a major new work covering Romanian history from ancient times to the present. It is the first substantial historical survey to be published in Romania after the 1989 overthrow of the Communist regime. The seven hundred fifty page volume appears under the aegis of The Center for Romanian Studies of Iasi and The Romanian Cultural Foundation of Bucuresti. Dr. Michelson wrote the section dealing with Romania between the years 1821 and 1921.
Professor Michelson's other new book, "Romanian Political Life 1859-1871," is scheduled to be published in English by the Center for Romanian Studies later this year and subsequently in a Romanian version by the Institutul European of Iasi.
Dr. Michelson is an internationally recognized authority on political, institutional, and cultural development in Southeast Europe and the Balkans in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly Romania and Moldova. He is a three-time Fulbright research professor in Romania. His other published works include Conflict and Crisis: Romanian Political Development 1861- 1871. His current research and publications focus on the Romanian revolutions of 1848 and 1989, Romanian historiography, World War II and anti-Semitism in Romania, political dysfunction in post-Communist societies in Russia and Eastern Europe, and the role of voluntarism in building civil society.
Dr. Michelson serves as secretary/editor of the Society for Romanian Studies , is an honorary member of academy historical institutes in Bucuresti, Iasi, and Chisinau, and is a member of the American Historical Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies, the Conference on Faith and History , and the Southeast European Studies Association. Dr. Michelson earned his Ph.D. in history from Indiana University.
