Renown ceramic artist to exhibit work in Wilson Gallery

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Delaware-based ceramic artist Victor Spinski will display his work in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery at Huntington University from Nov. 5-30 with an artist reception on from 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 9. Spinski's work has been shown extensively throughout the United States, and his pieces are part of the permanent collections of many museums.
Spinski specializes in "Trompe-l-oeil" ( French for fool the eye), ceramic sculptures.
"While the Yixing artists inspire me, I do not recreate or copy their work. My aesthetic lies with industrial society's utilitarian materials. I replicate styrofoam, plastic, stone, glass, paper, cardboard, wood and an assortment of metals," he said. "Where the Yixing artists seek tranquility, order and peace in their forms, my work shows action, disorder and a hurried appearance. Within this purposeful chaos, I strive to achieve unity and order."
The Wilson Gallery, located in the Merillat Centre for the Arts, is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all MCA performances and by appointment.
The gallery is free and open to the public.
