Rep. Leonard to give legislative updates at May Foundation Breakfast

HUNTINGTON, Ind. With the conclusion of the 2013 session of the Indiana General Assembly, Rep. Dan Leonard will provide an update on the impact recent legislation will have on the local community and state at the May 8 Foundation Breakfast.

Leonard, who was elected in 2002, has served on the judiciary, labor and employment, public policy, and ethics and veterans committees. Currently, he is the ranking member of the employment and labor committee and sits on the ways and means committee.

Also, after 22 years of service, Dr. G. Blair Dowden will attend for his final breakfast as president. Dowden came to Huntington University in 1991 as the institution's 12th president. He will retire from the position on May 31.

The Foundation Breakfast is open to the public. It will begin at 7:45 a.m. in the Habecker Dining Commons at Huntington University and conclude by 9 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $7. First-time attendees eat free courtesy of Bailey-Love Mortuary.

The breakfast is held on the second Wednesday of every month during the school year. Since 1938, the Huntington University Foundation has assisted Huntington County residents who attend Huntington University through the annual Huntington County Grant and endowed scholarships. The Foundation also supports community arts events.

In its 75th anniversary, the Foundation is celebrating all that has been accomplished through the support of the community. To celebrate this historic year, the Foundation is planning special events, including the monthly breakfast series and a Gala celebration during the annual dinner in September.
