Rowley, Chung to address Class of 2004 at 106th Commencement Exercises

Huntington, Ind. "Huntington College has announced the featured speakers for its 106th Commencement exercises to be held Saturday, May 15, 2004. Dr. Michael Rowley, Huntington College associate professor of communication, will deliver the baccalaureate address, How can I be successful? to graduates and their parents at 10:30 a.m., in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The annual commencement address, held on the campus' front lawn at 3 p.m., will be given by Dr. KunMo Chung, a licensed nuclear engineer and experienced science administrator. Dr. Michael Rowley
Dr. Rowley received his B.A. in public speaking and his M.A. in theory, persuasion, and public speaking from the University of Central Florida. He earned a Ph.D. in communication theory and research from Florida State University, where his studies focused on behavioral psychology, persuasion, public speaking and research methods. He served as instructor of speech and statistics at Bainbridge College in Georgia prior to coming to Huntington College in 1997. Rowley has presented papers at the American Cultural Association, the Southern States Communication Association, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and the National Council of Family Relations on topics such as "Synchronous and Asynchronous Forums in Cyberspace for Theoretical Dialectic" and "Spirituality and Religiosity as Factors in Adolescents' Risk for Anti-Social Behaviors and Use of Resilient Behaviors." He has been published in both popular and scholarly venues, including his article, "Critical Thinking in the Classroom: An Entertaining Approach," for The Teaching Professor. Dr. Rowley has brought to the classroom the relational skills he honed as a youth director in four Methodist churches in Florida and Georgia.
Dr. KunMo Chung
Dr. Chung studied at Seoul National University and earned his Ph.D. in physics from Michigan State University. Chung conducted post-doctoral research at Princeton University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). He established the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1971, and became Professor of Electrical Science and Provost of KAIST. He currently serves as president of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology, honorary president of Hoseo University, chairman of Habitat for Humanity Korea, and president of the Jang Young-Sil Memorial Foundation. He is skilled in the professional areas of energy systems analysis, nuclear power plant engineering, and science and technology policy research. Chung has also served as the president of the Korea Power Engineering Company, an organization responsible for designing all power plants in the Republic of Korea. Under his leadership, a standardization project of nuclear power plant designs in the Republic of Korea was initiated; culminating in a design currently considered the best of the 1000MWe-class pressurized water reactors.
Chung is also dedicated to Christian service. He has served as the founder and chairman of the National Reconciliation Prayer Movement, chairman of the Environmental Preservation Committee of the Korean Church Council, chairman of the Korean Chapter of Habitat for Humanity and member of the International Board of Habitat for Humanity, International. Chung is the honorary president of the Korean Christian Work Mission Council, co-chairman of the Korea Association for Promoting Common Values, past-chairman of the Korean Organ Donor Association, and past-chairman of the International Education Foundation for Physically Handicapped People.
