Servicemen, women to be honored at HU’s Foundation Breakfast

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University is celebrating past and present U.S. Military servicemen and women with a tribute during the Foundation Breakfast on Nov. 6.

Major General R. Martin Umbarger, the adjutant general of Indiana, will give an update on the pre-mobilized training, deployment and redeployment of the Indiana Army and Air National Guard in support of the Global War on terrorism.

Umbarger began his career as an enlisted soldier for the Indiana Army National Guard in 1969. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant, infantry branch, in June 1971 after graduating from the Indiana Military Academy as a distinguished military graduate. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the deputy commanding general (reserve component) for the United States Forces Command.

The Foundation Breakfast is open to the public. It will begin at 7:45 a.m. in the Habecker Dining Commons at Huntington University and conclude by 9 a.m. The cost of the breakfast is $7. First-time attendees eat free courtesy of Bailey-Love Mortuary. All servicemen and women will be recognized and provided with a free breakfast.

Since 1938, the Huntington University Foundation has assisted Huntington County residents who attend Huntington University through the annual Huntington County Grant and endowed scholarships. The Foundation also supports community arts events. The Foundation is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and for this special occasion, is raising $75,000 to support student scholarships and grants.
