WQHC extends campus radio signal county-wide

Huntington, Ind. " Youth around Huntington County have a new flagship radio station. WQHC, 105.5 FM, The Fuse, was officially launched Tuesday, April 9, at Huntington College, when Dr. G. Blair Dowden, President of Huntington College, activated the official broadcast.

This is a very significant day as we dedicate the new tower and frequency, Dowden said in a press conference just before the activation.

Bill Fisher, Director of Campus Ministries, said a prayer of dedication before Dowden activated the signal at 4:16 p.m.

We hope we will be a flagship station for youth groups to rally around for music and information they need from a Christian perspective, commented Dr. Lance Clark, Assistant Professor of Communication. Our mission is to reach the young people of this community, including teenagers and college students with the positive message of our music and programming.

The Fuse was formerly a station only for the Huntington College campus, but with a new Low Power FM (LPFM) license, the station can be heard across Huntington County. WQHC's format is unique for any market, playing only Christian alternative music. However, since becoming 105.5 FM, WQHC's programming is catered more to the adult listeners in the morning and afternoon with some light rock and alternative, and switching to a more hard rock and alternative format at 6 p.m., for the younger listeners.

We have conducted market testing and have developed a niche in the Christian music we play that is unlike any other station in the area, Clark explained.

The mission of WQHC is to serve our campus, community and listeners around the world by providing programming and Christian music that edifies the body of believers and brings glory to God.

The Fuse has giveaways almost every hour and the request lines are always open. The Fuse can still be heard on the web at www.hcradio.net and email song requests are always welcomed. Access to the request and contest line can be reached by calling, (260) 359-4113.
