The Good Order on Campus

Eunomia, the Greek word for "good order," is HU's pre-law club

Did you know Huntington University has a student-led pre-law club? The group is called Eunomia and is perfect for students looking to work in the legal field. I got in touch with Dr. Jeffrey Webb, pre-law advisor and club faculty sponsor, and he told me a bit about the activities Eunomia has been and will be doing.

“In the past,” said Webb, “the group has done a variety of things such as hosting Constitution Day activities, conducting on-campus voter registration drives, and showing law-related films like The Verdict starring Paul Newman.”

Eunomia has also toured numerous law schools such as Northwestern University, the University of Michigan, Indiana University – Bloomington, and Indiana University – Indianapolis. And of course, Eunomia conducted several mock trials and debates regarding state, national, and international laws and human rights.

Dr. Webb also said, “Most Eunomia members will graduate with some exposure to the legal profession through job shadowing or internships. In the past [we have] also had peer-to-peer Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) prep sessions.”

This semester, Eunomia has already taken a trip to Notre Dame Law School and planned a luncheon discussion over evidence and law with a guest philosophy scholar. Additionally, preparations are already being made for a mock trial this February. Even if you are not planning on joining, you can still attend as a spectator for free.

I may not be a pre-law or philosophy major, but I think it’s awesome that our campus offers students in these departments experience in a low-stakes environment. Plus, like it or not, there is no escape from politics, so we might as well discuss them early on. Learn more about pre-law studies at Huntington University at huntington.edu/Pre-Law.
