CNWS to host special Tibetan monk performance

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Go global and experience Tibet for yourself without stamping your passport. Huntington University's Center for Non-Western Studies will host a performance by Tibetan monks of the Tashi Kyil Monastery at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Habecker Dining Commons on campus.

The "Let's Travel to Tibet" cultural presentation will consist of traditional Tibetan music, dances, interpretive literature and debate.

In partnership with the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center in Bloomington, Ind., seven of the monks are touring the country to educate the public about the culture and religion of Tibet and raise much needed funds for their monastery.

"We are introducing the Tibetan religion and culture. 'Cause and effect' is our viewpoint and 'do not harm' is our activity. Our mission is to do something positive for world peace and to benefit others," said their leader, Ngagro Rinpoche.

The CNWS was established in 2009 to highlight and support inter-disciplinary research and teaching through a shared interest in non-western politics, culture and society. The center brings together a number of Huntington faculty in the fields of Bible and religion, business, English, history and political science, ministry, TESOL, social work and sociology.
