Huntington University recognizes board member for service

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University has granted emeritus status to Kenneth "Skip" Savage for his 23 years of service on the Board of Trustees.

Savage ended his tenure in October.

Savage, a native of Grandville, Mich., and father of board chair Kelly Savage, joined the board in 1988, and during that time, has served on the finance committee, the enrollment management, marketing and communication committee and the executive committee.

"I have greatly appreciated working with Skip. He has been an outstanding trustee," said Dr. G. Blair Dowden, president of Huntington University. "I am very grateful for his faithful and dedicated leadership of the university through his time, energy, resources and prayers. Throughout his tenure, he has been an influential member of the board and has provided valuable insights and understanding in our decision-making processes."

Savage was recognized during the Oct. 20-21 board meeting.

Also during the meeting, Kelly Savage of Grandville, Mich., Dr. Herbert Schumm of Lima, Ohio, and Nancy Hull of Belmont, Mich., were re-elected for a second term to the offices of chair, vice chair and secretary, respectively. The board also re-elected eight trustees to four-year terms: Dr. Owen Gordon of Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica; Dale Haupert of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Nancy Hull of Belmont, Mich.; Larry Lance of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Dr. Emmett Lippe of Harrison, Mich.; Brian Nofzinger of Adrian, Mich.; Jane Schenkel of Huntington, Ind.; and Dr. Herbert Schumm of Lima, Ohio. In addition, Student Body President Daniel Binkoski of Adrian, Mich., and Alumni Board President Greg Smitley of Leo, Ind., began their ex officio terms on the board.
