Huntington University to graduate its first online students

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University will graduate its first three online students this spring through its adult-degree programs.

Janice Yoder of Morton, Ill., will graduate with a bachelor's degree in not-for-profit leadership. Kelly Cook of Lagrange, Ind., will graduate with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Missy Lundmark of Wabash, Ind., will graduate with an associate degree in organizational management.

"We are proud to offer a variety of flexible formats in our high-quality programs for busy adults, and we're especially proud to graduate our first students from this innovative online format," said Dr. Steve Holtrop, dean of graduate/adult programs and academic effectiveness.

Huntington offers six online adult-degree programs and many other online summer courses for undergraduate students through the ease of distance learning. Hybrid graduate programs also are offered in youth ministry leadership and education.

"At first, it was just a personal goal of mine to get a degree, but now I am thinking about new career opportunities," said 2012 graduate Missy Lundmark. "I have had a wonderful experience. I never had the confidence to believe that I would make it through. Luckily, I have proven myself wrong."

Huntington began offering online degree programs in 2008. Last year, 88 students took online courses through the adult education program.

This year, Huntington University's online bachelor's degree programs were awarded honor roll status in the first-ever edition of Top Online Education Program rankings by U.S. News & World Report. Also, Huntington was ranked sixth in the nation for Online Christian Colleges & Universities for 2011. The rankings were compiled by The Best Colleges, a publication that reviews publicly available data and then produces independent ranking assessments of colleges in various disciplines. The online business administration degree also was ranked ninth in the Top 10 Online Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Programs of 2011 by The Best Colleges.
