HU’s social work program earns reaccreditation

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Huntington University's social work program boasts a near 100 percent placement rate for its graduates. And now, that work has been reaffirmed with the reaccreditation of the program. The program has been accredited for eight more years by the Council on Social Work Education's (CSWE) Commission on Accreditation (COA). The reaccreditation allows students to be accepted with advanced standing into a Master of Social Work degree program and the capacity to become licensed in any state.
The reaffirmation process involves an extensive self-study, submitted 10 months prior to the anticipated reaffirmation due date. Feedback was then received and a site visit followed. The board of directors or CSWE, then met in February and confirmed the reaffirmation of Huntington's program.
"Through completion of a bachelor's degree in social work education from Huntington University, our graduates are eligible to apply for state licensure in all of the 50 states as well as an advanced standing position when applying for graduate school in social work," said Dr. Carla MacDonald, assistant professor of social work.
Huntington University debuted its social work program in August 2004, and since then, its enrollment has grown from 12 to 32 students with a total of 65 graduates. The first six students graduated from the program in May 2007. A majority of our graduates work in the fields of mental health, adoption and foster care, services to children with autism, medical social work and child welfare.
