Student callers raise $100k for scholarships

HUNTINGTON, Ind. Nine out of 10 Huntington University students receive aid from the university's Forester Fund, and with the help of 25 student callers for the Fall Phonathon, $108,760 was raised for student scholarships. During the Fall Phonathon, friends and alumni gave $58,760 for the Fund, and a generous donor pledged a dollar-for-dollar matching donation up to $50,000. This total exceeds the last two Phonathons combined.
"This is an incredible start toward our $500,000 goal for the Forester Fund. We are so encouraged by the new energy at HU these days and are looking forward to helping others to be a part of it through their generous financial support," said Vince Haupert, vice president for advancement at HU. "Investing in the world changers at HU is always worth it."
For the first time ever, the Phonathon was directed by two students, Steph Yoder ('15) and Caleb Overfelt ('14).
"Serving as a student manager for the Phonathon was a wonderful but challenging opportunity," Overfelt said. "As managers, not only did we become aware of the behind-the-scenes work that is required, but we became directly responsible for it. My favorite part about being a student manager was the opportunity to work more directly with the other callers. We had a great group of students. … I really enjoyed getting to know them."
