Theatre Arts Department seeks actor for ‘Proof’

Huntington, Ind.-The Huntington University Department of Theatre Arts is seeking an actor to portray the role of "Robert" in the university's fall 2009 production of "Proof." The department is in search of an excellent community or non-equity local male actor in his late 40s to early 60s from the Fort Wayne or Huntington area.
Auditions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, in the Studio Theatre of the university's Merillat Centre for the Arts.
Sides will be provided at the audition. No monologues need be prepared. Sides will be available prior to audition and will be posted on the callboard for pick up anytime during weekly business office hours, or the sides can be e-mailed in PDF format. Please bring a resume and headshot stapled together to the audition.

Rehearsals for "Proof" will begin Aug. 24. The production will run from Sept. 24-26 for four performances in the Studio Theatre.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
ROBERT: Catherine and Claire's father. In his 50's. Once a brilliant and cutting edge mathematician and professor of Mathematics at the University of Chicago, but he now struggles with his sanity. He is kind, intelligent and witty when lucid but can be testy and irrational when his illness takes hold. Seeking an actor with good to strong acting abilities grounded in realism. Previous professional or community theatre acting experience is desired but not mandatory.
PRODUCTION AND REHEARSAL INFORMATION
Rehearsals will begin Aug. 24. For Monday through Wednesday on Aug. 24-26, rehearsals will take place approximately from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Once the academic year begins, then a typical rehearsal week will be Monday and Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Additional rehearsals may be called on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Actor playing Robert will not be required at all rehearsals. Production will run Sept. 24-26 for four performances in the Studio Theatre on campus. All rehearsals will take place on Huntington campus.
There is no pay; however, actor will receive a small travel stipend.
SYNOPSIS
On the eve of her twenty-fifth birthday, Catherine, a young woman who has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, Robert, must deal with not only his death but the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire, and with the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks that Robert left behind. As Catherine confronts Hal's affections and Claire's plans for her life, she struggles to solve the most perplexing problem of all: How much of her father's madness-or genius-will she inherit? From David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, this script takes on big issues of the fine line that can be tread between genius and mental instability, why lives get stuck in grief, and how elusive the truth can actually be.
