Test Optional FAQ

We don’t want test scores to standing in the way of becoming a Forester! Applicants may apply without an SAT, ACT or CLT score.

Test scores are only one measure of college readiness. We want to review your application file holistically, taking into account your academic record, essays, extracurricular involvements, references, etc.

Who is eligible?

Any student who is enrolled in a public or private high school within the United States and who has completed a college preparatory high school curriculum which includes:

  • 4 years of English
  • 2 years of college preparatory mathematics
  • 3 years of social studies (including American and world history)

Students who are applying test-optional must complete our Supplemental Application which includes a 250-word essay by clicking here.

You may also request two individuals to complete a recommendation form on your behalf. We suggest asking someone who knows you well and can speak to your ability to be successful as a college student such as a teacher, guidance counselor, coach, supervisor, pastor, etc. Family members may not complete your recommendation form.

You may provide the following link to your references:https://www.huntington.edu/recommendations

What about homeschooled students?

Homeschooled students and students who attend high schools that do not assign grades may still apply test-optional.

How will it affect my financial aid offer?

Financial aid will continue to be offered based on merit and need. All regularly admitted full-time students will still receive an academic scholarship, regardless of whether you submit a test score. Submitting a test score will help us best identify all academic scholarships for which you may be eligible.

If I take the SAT/ACT/CLT, do I have to send it?

No, even if you have an SAT/ACT/CLT score you will not be required to submit it. However, we suggest submitting a test score if you have one. The more information you can provide us to demonstrate your academic abilities will help us make a more informed admission decision along with assisting in course placement.

How do I send my SAT/ACT/CLT scores?

Your standardized test scores may be sent to Huntington University through the test website (collegeboard.org or act.org). Our SAT code is 1304 and our ACT code is 1202. If your high school includes your SAT/ACT score on your high school transcript, then an official copy of your transcript will also be considered an official reporting of test scores. CLT scores may be submitted to admissions@huntington.edu.

Does this mean Huntington is lowering its admission standards?

No, our average GPA for incoming freshmen is a 3.47 on a 4.0 scale. We don’t anticipate that removing our testing requirement will lower our academic profile. We’re committed to admitting students who will be successful in and out of the classroom and continuing the legacy of success which has been in place since 1897.

Can I apply now and send my scores later?

Yes, feel free to apply to Huntington University now and send your test scores once you have the opportunity to test. You can submit initial or updated SAT or ACT or CLT scores until March 1 of your senior year.
