‘A Day On’

It was "a day on, not a day off" as Huntington University celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day today.Featured speaker the Rev. Arthur Wilson, director of urban scholarship and mentoring at HU, spoke in front of students, staff, faculty and community members this morning about showing love to one another on this day of remembrance.
"I believe the greatest thing that we can do to honor God and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is to love others," Wilson said. "We shouldn't love simply because Dr. King had a dream. ... We should love because God demonstrated his love for us."
This event, plus many others around the community of Huntington, were organized by the Harmony Task Force through the Harmony Initiative. Formed in 2007, the Harmony Initiative is an ad hoc group of local business leaders, elected officials, clergy, educators and social-service workers advancing values of the city of Huntington's mission statement, which declares Huntington to be "a community of civility and inclusion, where diversity is honored and differences are respected."
