HU Women’s Auxiliary Breakfast to feature ‘Faces of Haiti’

HUNTINGTON, Ind. "Faces of Haiti" will be the topic of the Fall Women's Breakfast sponsored by the Huntington University Women's Auxiliary. The breakfast will take place at 9 a.m. Sept. 21. Rebekah Hubley, a professional photographer, professor and mother of several special needs children, will be the featured speaker.

Hubley, an adjunct professor at HU, has been going to Haiti since she was a child. Starting in 1978, she accompanied her father, a doctor, who went twice a year to do medical work.

Through her travels, she was able to refine her work as a photographer. She has been taking photographs professionally for 14 years. During that time, she also became a mother of special needs children, one, a son from Haiti. Making multiple trips to Haiti to locate her adopted son's birth mother, she chronicled the visits through a series of photographs, titled "Faces of Haiti," which share her love of the country and its peoples.

From Sept. 9 to Oct. 5, Hubley's work will also be featured with other art professors in the Robert E. Wilson Gallery in the Merillat Centre for the Arts at HU. The gallery is free and open to the public.

The buffet breakfast will be held in the upper level of HU's Habecker Dining Commons. It will also include vocal performances by music students. The breakfast is open to the public.

Reservations should be made by Sept. 18 with Pat Jones at Richlyn Library at 260-359-4061, or 260-356-7356 or Linda Bordeaux at 260-672-2598. Tickets are $7 and may be paid at the door. New HU women faculty, staff and spouses of new faculty and staff will be guests of the Auxiliary.

The Huntington University Women's Auxiliary promotes dormitory projects for students' comfort. This year one of the projects the group will be working on is wall decor.
